Oh No! Another 5 days at sea

February 5, Super Bowl Sunday

Today we watched the Super Bowl, rooting for the New York Giants. The ship threw a party in the Cabaret Lounge and showed the game on 3 large screens. There were beer specials along with buffalo wings, hot dogs and popcorn. Since we have many Canadians and Brits it was not that crowded, unlike on other ships that were always standing room only. We are now playing trivia twice a day, some day we might win. Betty’s doing lots of reading, and I am trying to work on pictures. I had my second class on Photo Elements, it is hard to retain the information but I am learning how to use the tools. The show tonight was Brent Webb, a Mentalist, he was amazing and we can not figure out how he did his tricks. Looking forward to his next show.

February 6,

Today, we resumed our lectures on WWII, today’s was Submarine Warfare in the Pacific. Always good and interesting. Still haven’t won at trivia but we are always close. Lobster for dinner, which is always a treat. The show was an award winning Broadway singer, Lovena Fox. Betty really like her performance, I was more critical but did enjoy the show.

February 7, Hump Day

Betty went to a Culinary Demo by Executive Chef Antonio Cortese. The secrets of fresh pasta making, so now Betty will be making our pasta from scratch. I have keep control of my weight so I can eat it at home.  Lorna, one of our trivia partners is giving a talk on her upcoming feat of jumping from the Sky Tower in Auckland, New Zealand. She is doing it as a fund raiser for Make-A-Wish Foundation. Tonight’s show was a encore performance by George Casey, the Irish comedian. Probably the best comedian I have ever seen on a cruise. During the day we saw over 100 dolphins and many flying fish, but no whales.

February 8, Bump Day

Yes bump day, we crossed the equator during the night. We didn’t feel the bump. Today the WWII speaker returns with a talk titled “Navy Enlisted Men & Women in the Pacific War. This afternoon we had the symbolic crossing the equator ceremony. If you have never crossed before you have to be initiated to become a shellback from a pollywog. Thanks God we are already Shellbacks. Below is King Neptune and Queen(lovely Queen) officiate the proceeding including kissing of the fish. Yuk!

Tonight’s show was a encore performance by the mentalist Brent Webb. Well, this time I figured out how he did two tricks but a couple other we had no clue.

February 9, Last of these 5 sea days.

We are still sailing in a south-south-westerly direction, almost a straight line from Hawaii. We have traveled 1900 miles from Kauai and have 373 miles to go. Today we had another port talk, this one is on Dravuni Island, one of the Fijian islands. Not much going on today, we played trivia twice and of course didn’t win. Oh, yes We played “Real Live Wooden Horse Racing”. Betty got to name a horse “Diablo” number 6 and she was the jockey. Of course she won but  we bet another horse. Just because we bet before she was named the jockey. Betty won another race betting and won a battery-operated fan. It had to be 100 degrees standing in the sun next to the pool. I lost!

Tonight’s show is a encore performance by Lovena B. Fox, we plan on going only because we turn back our clocks an hour tonight and gain another hour’s sleep. We are looking forward to visiting Pago-Pago, American Samoa tomorrow. (Just an FYI – it is pronounced Pango-Pango.  Bill cannot grasp this, he thinks they just don’t know how to spell.)Hey, it should have a “n”.
